Herbal Incense For Sale
Manufactured cannabinoids are a major player in the quickly changing “legal highs” market. These strong synthetic cannabinoid receptor agonists are typically soaked or sprayed into herbal smoking combinations and have effects akin to those of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol. They are commonly and openly offered online under the guise of “Herbal Incense” (potpourri), with “legal” substitutes for the synthetic cannabinoids used in the combinations constantly being introduced to keep up with current regulations.
A “spice-like” Herbal Ecstasy sample was sent to the lab for toxicological examination. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography with a diode array detector were used to evaluate a methanolic sample solution. It was discovered that the herbal blend included only one psychotropic ingredient, the μ-opioid receptor agonist U-47700. A quantitative analysis was carried out to get a sense of the potency of the confiscated herbal concoction, even though significant variations in concentration between batches are to be expected.
Given the growing risk of synthetic opioid-related deaths, the discovery of U-47700 in “spice-like” herbal incense is quite concerning since misuse might be extremely dangerous because users are probably unaware that they are taking a powerful synthetic opioid. This case serves as further evidence of the public health risks associated with newly developed psychoactive substances that are openly marketed online as “legal highs.”
